types of edward's syndrome
full form -
Almost 94% of babies diagnosed with Edward's Syndrome will have the full form of Edward's Syndrome. Full form is when every cell in the body has three copies of the chromosome 18, instead of two. Most babies with full form will die before infancy.
mosaic trisomy 18 -
5% of babies with Edward's Syndrome will have the extra copy of chromosome 18 and only some of thier body cells. This type is not as severe as full form, but is more rare.
- 1 in every 12 babies with Edward's Syndrome survive past 1 year but it is very rare for children with this syndrome to live into early adulthood
- of babies born with Edward's syndrome half with survive two weeks and 1 in 5 babies will survive up to three months
